Pantun is one type of old poetry that is very widely known in the languages of the Archipelago. Pantun is derived from the word pat guides in the Minangkabau language which means "guide". All forms of rhymes consist of two parts: the sampiran and the contents. Attachments are the first two lines, often related to nature (characterizing the agrarian culture of the supporting community), and usually have no connection with the second part which conveys intent other than to deliver rhyme / poetry. The last two lines are content, which is the aim of the pantun.
Karmina and Talibun are forms of pantun developments, in the sense of having a side and contents section. Karmina is the "short version" pantun (only two lines), while the Talibun is the "long version" (six or more lines).
